I had the greatest assistant but he decided to go law school instead of photograph weddings. This photo from our previous job shows his photography abilities which are superb. I consider this a true photojournalist image. It was taken at a wedding, but it could have been anywhere, the success of the photo doesn’t depend on it being at a wedding. And that is true documentary wedding photojournalism in the original sense of the word “photojournalism”, documenting as it happens, objectively and artfully.  And its full frame too.  Meaning that one old standard was that the photographer did not crop in to the photo, that it was presented exactly as it was seen through the viewfinder using the “full frame” of (at that time) the negative. So the next time you interview photographers for your wedding, ask if they shoot “full frame”.  That would signify a true artist with a camera.

Another one from last weeks wedding . . . .

Isn’t it always the happy accidents that surprise us? The unexpected happens and suddenly it becomes a grateful experience. I find this is also true in my photography, that when the unexpected happens, I learn from it and accept it as something I couldn’t have done on purpose. Such is the case with a plastic wrapper while hopping around town with Jennifer and Jack et al. on Saturday in search of photos at some of Chicago’s greatest vantage points. Actually Jennifer and the girls were on the way to the ceremony when I lifted up my camera to take a candid and a bridesmaid pointed out that a plastic candy wrapper had gotten stuck in front of my lens. I yanked out the wrapper that was caught in my lens hood so my pictures wouldn’t be fuzzy when I decided I’d like to know how the photos turned out. Below you can see the result on the left. On the right is my version after I’ve adjusted it. Any preferences which one you like more?

This one was no accident and everyone was enthused about created the widest know wedding party ever to grace the north end of the Michigan Ave. bridge.

Julia and Christian were married last fall and during the wedding we covered quite a bit of territory. From Northwestern campus all the way down to the Shedd Aquarium, they loved having pics at classic Chicago locations as well as some not so popular and out of the way ones. Julia and Christian are both doctors and are currently doing internships at local hospitals. What a fun, busy and great couple.

The blog post tells the story, Marta and Jay had their 10 year anniversary recently and started looking at the wedding album I did for them and reminiscing. Jay is now a great fashion and boudoir photographer and Marta is an architect.

The beautiful Heather and handsome James were married last October in the lush area northwest of Chicago near Cary, IL.

And we are very greatfull to have received it.

Carolyn and John were married in the always stunning St. Clement Church. After the service we strolled through Lincoln Park, where Carolyn gamely climbed onto some outdoor sculpture! North Ave. beach offered a great skyline view, then we headed to the Chicago Marriott to let loose on the dance floor.
